Griffith is absolutely right. it is blatantly obvious that consumers are discovering that it would be a waste of money to get a xbox 360 for halo 3 and that microsoft is trying to prolong the release of longhorn as much as it can (I STILL REMEMBER WAITING LIKE A CHILD FOR THE "2004" RELEASE DATE. Anyways, the point is that this is a futile (FUTILE!!!) attempt to get people to buy halo 3 (and, thus, an xbox 360)

PS3 wins, XBOX and NINTENDO fall (NINTENDO loses, MiCROSOFT has a bbillion other things so its rather unaffected

It will probably take off. Halo is the perfect game to change into a movie because it's more mainstream than other geek targeted games. But again depends what they make out of it.

Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat is a less biased list considering the monies these films have taken in.

You forgot Tomb Raider. One aspect I don't like about Halo is that it isn't that big of a deal, at least not where I live. My guess is that in America it has probably reached a Lara Croft height that I'm unaware of, but from my point of view it seems like Microsoft is trying to buy Halo's popularity trying to make it sound and look better and bigger than it really is.

I think Halo has reached it's popularity peak. If you go to Gamespot's poll archive and look at the XBox 360 and Halo 3 polls you'll notice that 45% of the people that voted don't care or aren't getting the XBox 360º and 39% of the people that voted on the Halo 3 poll aren't buying (or don't plan to) because they were disappointed with it's ending.

So let's do some maths ... according to my calculations (if I did something wrong feel free to fix my numbers) at the very maximum 33.55% (55 - 39% of it) of gamers will buy Halo 3. But I think this percentage is very exagerated because on the XBox 360º many (37%) voted that they would wait for all the "hullabaloo* to die" before buying it, and if the console proves to be disappointing compared to the PS3 than that share of gamers won't be getting either the console or the game.

So at the moment Microsoft's strategy seems to be: Chunk out buckets of publicity (Mtv, Halo movie) and get all the attention they can away from Longhorn.

Sony's strategy seems to be: Wow the crowd.

Which one is better? Well, in the long term, if what Sony showed at E3 proves to be real then I think that the PS3 will win this console's round. If Nintendo decides to give more maturity to their titles (unlikely) they could probably make Microsoft's knees tremble a bit and perhaps even take second place, at least that's what I speculate.

* Don't ask me what hullabaloo is, I have no idea either.
