OS X x86 Leak May Be Fake

I posted previously about a possible leak of the Mac OS X build for x86 machines. Some have seen it floating around on a few of the BT hubs.

According to a few of the Mac news sites, the leak appears to be fake. When it is downloaded, it turns out to be nothing but a bunch of text files.

I’m not sure of the legality of me saying this, but here is an excerpt from an NFO file “a friend” managed to locate:

For all you eager guys out there waiting to get your hands on the mac os x. There have been rumors about it getting released on silly p2p and newsgroups, but it’s completely fake. We are proud to bring Mac OS X for the x86 processor, pre retail. Yes, you heard right. Pre Retail. This comes fully cracked and all you need to do is just unrar and burn with your favorite software. We hope to bring you guys more stuff in the near future and thanks for the support from everyone.

The one “my friend” managed to download was a fake that did boot but then displayed only the image from the infamous goatse.

“My freind” was very unpleased and didn’t need to see that first thing in the morning.

Go read the attached comments on Pirate Bay, they are all fakes mostly done by the GNAA. Looks like they made Slashdot too.

Another 5 torrents “my friend” downloaded prooved to be nothing as well. They were either the same result only different size; or complete nothingness.

goatse is not fun to wake up to…I know ’someone’ that had a similar experience…so far everything out there this ‘friend’ of mine has found has been fake…there are a few torrent sites where idiots have even posted os x 10.3 and claimed it was x86 compatible according to a ‘friend’….as of right now i beleive this leak is either busted…or isnt available in the usual places yet according to my ‘friend’

Well, I have opened mine with a hex editor. It is just a repeated text of “GNAA”

Also, I heard from my friend, the new “Fake” release or upcoming will boot, this time, but also, would contain trojans or some sort (viruses) to screw people around. Beware!

No, that’s all false, currently, I am multibooting MAC OS X X86 and Microsoft Windows XP on a VAIO PC, if you download it as an ISO it should work, so, IT IS NOT A FAKE

I forgot where the torrent was downloaded, but I could email the torrent file, it was somewhere on thepiratebay, just track down the ISO copy, my friend downloaded it also, got it to boot, and since he had his drive partitioned he got a format error and had to reinstall windows, remember to install a second hard drive

hey, if anyone’s got a good copy of panther that they have the torrent or iso of i’d like it. It’s hard to track down. I have Tiger, which is the newer release, but the problem is it’s not compatible with pearpc (an emulator to run mac under XP). So if anyone does have it could you email me the torrent or link
