Gamespot is quoting an interview that Sony’s Ken Kutaragi gave to Impress PC Magazine, where he says that the Sony PS3 hard drives will be able to run Linux.
Kutaragi disclosed that he plans to install the Linux operating system on the PS3′s hard disc drive (HDD) so it will be recognized as a computer, rather than a mere console.
Basically, but running an OS and using the new Cell processor technology, the PS3 can be viewed as more of a supercomputer than just a gaming console.
But can it run… no wait…

the PS3 will capture the market, even with its sky high estimated prices (which sony WILL take a loss on the consoles and lower the price to get BLU-RAY into the mainstream).
WHAT MOST PEOPLE ARE MISSING HERE is NOT that the PS3 is a computer and a game console (although that justifies its higher proce and thus more people will buy it)but the more IMPORTANT THING IS THAT SONY IS USING BLU-RAY. YOU MAY THINK I AM CRAZY BUT BELIEVE ME, THAT’S THE BIG DEAL BECAUSE IF SONY CAN TAKE A LOSS ON THE CONSOLES BUT GET BLU-RAY INTO THE MAINSTREAM AND *****MAKE IT VERY POPULAR****** IT COULD REPLACE CD’S and DVD’S very easily, then sony has the whole media market to themselves (optical drives, media, etc.)
