I have had a NW-E407 for over a year now and the battery life is still great and the product is brilliant. Sonic stage really sucks but once the songs are on the player, my word its cool. iPods are a good concept but lack battery life and the shuffle lacks a screen which also sucks because you can’t really choose a song.

don’t need to use sonicstage… on sony’s site u can get a program that goes on your mp3 player and enables drag and drop… the + is that you can use it on any computer since the software itself is on the mp3 player.

For christ sake, how difficult is it nowadays to create programs that run on different platforms? I love my NW-HD5 for the battery life, but as I recently switched to mac and found out that Sony doesn’t even support that, I’m ready to ditch that little machine again. I’ll sure watch out better before buying anything from sony again.

I got given a brand new NW507 and I am a mac user. I can’t beleive they wont bother to release software for the mac. Apple can be bothered, so it can be done. The reason why I’m not willing to buy an Ipod is the issue with the battery life.

i agree with # 12, and let me say that having used the ipod shuffle, the ipod 20 gig (not color screen) and the nw- e407g, i will go for the nw-e407g, since its easu to use, has good design, incredible battery life and the facility to use a convertion to atract, which really makes no difference to the sound. yet all the ipod models are annoying in some way (or at least to me). The shuffle is way too simple and not having a screen is not a good thing (for me). The mass storage models are “too big”, the battery runs out fast, has many storage space, but do you really need it? the nw-e407 has 1 gig, yet it allows over 695 songs (in atract format), offers quick charge and long lasting battery, ad it is way easier to use.

In terms of design, I think the Shuffle lacks what an iPod really is, but the E400 really stands out in terms of what a great MP3 player is.

So what if you are a mac owner and have just brought a sony E507, can you download SonicStage and copy songs from i tunes that way or is there no alternative than to use windows?? Please help!

To #7, well the post was supposed to be sarcastic, but I guess that doesn’t come across very well on the computer screen. What does come across pretty well is poor grammar and bad spelling.

To #8 and #2, I agree. The Sony looks like it is such a better product than the Apple. I may need to go somewhere and do some testing of my own.

The iPod shuffle has simpler controls and you can easilly use it with one hand. The NW-E400/500 can be used with only one hand but it’s a bit tricky sometimes. Also, not being Mac compatible is a big minus for a mac person looking for alternatives. Not having a decent program (SonicStage) can also be infuriating sometimes.

It is a great product in my eyes, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

That specific model is all black, but they come in different colors. I don't think that Sony will emphasize on advertisement as much as Apple does, or if they will even advertise this product at all (besides newsletters or product catalogues). One thing is for sure, I didn't buy this product just to make a statement that I'm against the iPod trend. I bought it because it's a superior product in (almost) every aspect.

So if the Ipod Shuffle is all white, and the Sony NW-E407B is all black, is Sony going to start showing ads of people silhouetted all in white dancing around with a Black MP3 player? It only makes sense, and it would definitely get the “geek who wants to be anit-establishment” vote.

Funny that I use anti-establishment when referring to Sony, but in this case it’s true.
