Microsoft seem to be flexing the money muscle again. They report that their console will be about $300--which I'm sure is less than half of what it cost them to build it: Initial loss of a few hundred mil is chump change.

Sony must have been thinking about $400-$500 for PS3, but now, that figure is too high in comparison to $300. They cannot sell if they're that much more expensive than the Xbox: Though Sony hardware is supposed to be better, most people see Xbox and PS to be about the same. Better hardware means higher price tag for Sony, but not necessarily consumers. So they're bound to lose more money than Microsoft if they match the price.

Sony has a lot of money as well, but I'm sure they're not nearly as comforable as Microsoft with the aspect of possibly doubling their initial loss. But the choices are to keep thier high price and lose sales and marketshare, lower the price and bite the bullet, or lower the price AND remove some hardware(and buying hatred). Not the best set of options.
