I heard somewhere that one of the planets codes had xena in it and thus it was dubbed an unofficial nickname. Due to that they nicknamed the planets moon (when they discovered it later) Gabrielle. Whilst i'm not a huge fan of the Xena tv show i have to admit that i think the names have a nice ring to it. Gabrielle is a very nice name for a moon i feel. And Xena is nice too, also because it starts with an X and the roman numeral for 10 is X. But then what happens if they discover another "planet" closer to the sun than this new one, but still further than pluto. We'll have to start shuffling around numbers, i think that will be the next bout of confusion in this whole thing.

whats wrong whit 2003 UB313, it is just a pice of rock, an astroid, in the ortho cloud, like pluto, and if pluto have been discovered to day it would have been classified as an astroid. calling pluto a planet is only a matter of trasision.

okay, okay... so Proserpine is an "asteroid", already not a meteorite.

So sue me for not being an astronomer! :-)

"Prosperpine' is still way better a name for Planet X.

First off, the name has to be a feminine one. There is something momentous, grand and mysterious about this dark, unknown 10th planet. It resonates with the archetypal Anima who dwells in the dark waters of the subconcious which we have yet to gain the courage to face and accept if we are to mature. The name has to be feminine.
Secondly, it has to be the Latin equivalent to an ancient Greek mythological deity. [Why break the tradition now?]
So... suggestions?
Nemesis or Nyx - both excellent (if gloomy)suggestions for the 10th planet. [But neither is my preference]. The first, Nemesis, would be appropriate for a planet that seems to be a harbinger of the Earth's current precarious situation. But this is too grim - and too reactive to our current duress.
The second, Nyx, derives from the ancient Greek Goddess of Night - again, very appropriate for a planet on the edge of the solar system, shrouded in mystery and constant darkness.
For all that, I think 'Proserpine' is a brilliantly apt suggestion. Feminine consort of Pluto, the mythology insisted she had a secret to beauty so powerful and alluring that even Psyche was prepared to go into the underworld to obtain a small casket of hers in which the secret power was concealed.
That power was, of course, Oblivion - Forgetfulness.
How appropriate for a planet beyond which is... Nothing... or else the threshold into a wholly new awareness of... Everything!
'Proserpine'. It has to be.
Who cares if some grubby little meteorite already has the name! Rename the meteorite 'Thetis'... or something equally "demi-goddess" and give Planet X a worthy name.
'Prosperpine'.

Krypton (from Greek "cripto", to hide) as it was hidden for a long time, or in honour of Superman ;-)
Or:
Demetra, Parsephon's mother. Even though the equivalent Roman goddess Ceres (Cerere) is already used for the largest asteroid between Mars and Jupiter, it should be perhaps the analogue largest "planet" or planetoid in the Kuiper belt.

I think a very good name would be "Somnus," roman god of sleep.

It's so far away, we're barely "conscious" of it, and because it has the longest orbital period and is the coldest, darkest planet...sleep is an apt metaphor.

Nemesis, Hekate (or Hecate)(distant goddess, very confused), Persephone (wife of pluto) , Chaos*, Eris, Nyx,

*Chaos is good because he is the father/grandfather of Uranus...so Jupiter > Saturn > Uranus > Chaos

Personally, I think that it should be named either Faunus, the Roman name of Pan, the Greek god of the wilderness, or Minerva, the Roman name for Athena, the Greek goddess of civilization, because it's either at the edge of the known wilderness or civilization of the Solar System. Vulcan and Nemesis are good names, but they were already given to a hypothetical intra-Mercurial planet and the Sun's susposed companion star, respectively.
