500 Million iTunes

Apple is approaching the 500 millionth song sold in the iTunes Music Store. To celebrate, they are giving the buyer of the 500 millionth song a pretty nice prize package, including 10 iPods of their choice and a trip to see Coldplay in concert.

500 million songs on the iTunes Music Store marks a dramatic acceleration of the purchase of legally downloadable music on the Internet. And the music fan who purchases that song will receive a prize that’s just as dramatic — 10 iPods for yourself and family or friends (choose from any model iPod, iPod mini, iPod U2, or iPod shuffle); a gold 10,000-song gift card for the music store; 10 additional 50-song gift cards to go with those iPods; and a trip for you and three guests to see Coldplay on its current tour, with front-row seats (subject to availability), and “back-stage” passes for a meet n’ greet with the band (guaranteed availability).

So what are you waiting for? Go buy some songs.

If only there was an Australian iTunes music store.

500 million songs / 22 million iPods sold = ~23 songs per iPod.
Wow, what an amazing pickup rate! If the ratio of the songs per iPod was directly proportional to the amount of press, heck, that would be 500 songs per iPod. Totally tired!

In related news, John Doe who got sued by RIAA today happens to be the 10,000,000,000,000,000,000th downloader of the newest Britney Spears song, ‘Samebubblegumshitthatsbeenplayedforthelastfiftysomeoddyears.”
