Well, there were many people that were very upset about Microsoft peaking into their system to see if they had a valid copy of Windows XP, but it looks like some wonderful javascript will save the day.
AV sez, “This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verifiy their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called ‘Genuine Advantage.’ It was cracked within 24 hours.”
Before pressing ‘Custom’ or ‘Express’ buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:
javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck=’all’)
It turns off the trigger for the key check.

HELP! I have what I thought was a valid copy of windows. I can pass through the windows update, but can not download. Does anyone have a way I can gain access to download the software covered by genuine advantage.
THANK YOU!!!!
umm someone know how “trick” microsoft on this ‘Genuine Advantage without entering windows update?
i want to install IE7 and i cant validate my windows..

Try tools – internet options – programs – manage add-ons….
Find windows genuine advantage and disable it ;)
Hi :D
I received an item which is now permanently attached to my taskbar which says ‘you may be a victim of software counterfeiting’, I don’t know how to remove it from the taskbar and whenever I start my computer I have the message ‘you are running unlicenced copy of windows XP’ it reminds me of that malware about:blank which hijacked my Internet Explorer’s homepage. Microsoft is behaving like the people who make viures and page hijacking programs.
you need a tool called removeWGA is available out there .
