New Microsoft Fonts

With the release of Windows Vista, Microsoft has created a new set of ClearType fonts to go along with it. Until now, these were only available as part of the default installation of Windows Longhorn Beta Releases.

Now you can download them seperately (while it lasts) for your viewing pleasure. A side note that this is not an official Microsoft release, so grab ‘em while they are available.

Anyone familiar with how to install these in Gentoo?

  3. P.J. Onori says:

Nice Matt – Thanks for the updated URL.

  4. Although this is no complete collection.
The Meiryo family and the Cariadings family are missing. Any info where we can get them?

  5. Those have been around for awhile for XP… since probably early spring.

  6. Matt Burris says:

Calibri is especially nice. I have it as my main font on XP. These should be a nice supplement for web design when IE7 becomes prevalent.

  7. John says:

I installed these in Gnome (in Nautilus drag the .ttf files in to fonts:///) and am using Consolas in terminals and Corbel most everywhere else. Good stuff, I love the little things like the @ symbol.

  8. Charlie says:

Consolas absolutely rocks for code editing. It’s finally replaced Vera Sans Mono as my monospace font of choice. The others are beautiful too — can’t wait for them to become more widespread. Let’s hope MS sees fit to release them for other platforms too.

NEW, Frome the makers of Comic Sans!!!

Microsoft is absolutely the last company that comes to mind when I think of quality fonts.

  10. Charlie says:

Chad – then think again. These new fonts are quite honestly some of the finest screen fonts ever created. Check the link from G Stearsman above. And anyway, what about Verdana, Georgia and Trebuchet? All fine fonts from Microsoft. Credit where credit is due, and all that.

  11. Anybody have a working link for these? The one already posted is quite dead. I’ve been eager to check these out ever since I saw that article on poynter.

  12. Dren T. Martin says:

Don’t worry Dylan, I can’t get a working link for them either. *sigh* If I find one I will most definatly post here for it.

  13. Mario Parris says:

Matthew from StrategicZero (see first post) in the interest of fonty goodness, provided the zip file for download.. heres the link to his post: http://blog.strategiczero.com/wp/?p=122

  14. Bill Kearney says:

Now if someone would just make one that had decent looking VT100 line drawing characters.

  15. natalie says:
