Sharp develops 100 gig optical disc

The header pretty much sums it up. Sharp Corp. has developed an optical disc capable of storing 100 gigs of space based on Blue Ray technology. I wonder how much it will cost. Currently discs that store about 8 gigs of data go for more than $6 a pop, so I’m thinking around $70 or so. I’ll just stick to my external hard drives.

Well, some Computer shows charge about $40 USD for 100GB HardDrives, so, it might be a little cheaper than $70.

You can’t just estimate the price of a blank media solely based on price/gig ratio of another form of media. For example, what if we compared it to regular dvdr? 100pack dvdr(4.7gig) is around $50, which comes out to about 10cents per gig–or $10 for the same disk you estimate to be $70.

    I’m not estimating, I’m assuming / guessing.
