If you have only two pennies left in the world, with the first penny, you should buy rice to feed your family. With the second penny, say the wise Japanese, you should buy a lily. The Japanese understand the importance of dreaming...

Once again, and for all FG editors, if your comments aren't working the first time you post an article, click on the "Save" button after it finishes pinging the blogs. If that doesn't work either, on the left menu click on "Rebuild Files" and select "Rebuild all files" from the two options and let the popup window open, not only will it fix your comments, but also everyone's comments.

When I see an article that isn't working I always do that when I have the time, even though I haven't been posting as much lately I've always been keeping an eye on the forums and trying to fix the comments when I see them.

I think I know the error that Dylan was mentioning - I have it on another Forever Geek post. It says: Warning: main(../header.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/frvrgeek/public_html/electricity_water_fire.php on line 20

Warning: main(): Failed opening '../header.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/frvrgeek/public_html/electricity_water_fire.php on line 20

Hope this helps. :-)

*me bows to cliche*

Thanks for the suggestions. I will endeavour to do more of those things. Product reviews might be a bit difficult though, as I don't have access to many products or much money to get said products.

I know there are plenty of geek news sites around, I visit around 100 of them every day. It is just hard to get quality content that is not posted everywhere. :)

Dylan made a good point. I don't know why others visit FG, but I for one come here for different news, not the biggest or the most important: I leave that to other major news sites such as /. So it's safe to say that any news covered on /. is not really news anymore to me and many others.

If you're having trouble finding articles, here are a few suggestions.
-More how-to type articles. I found a few of them on FG like 'speeding up firefox' and 'skinning windows' pretty helpful.
-More product reviews. Most tend to be interesting.

Hi,

It has been hard going to find news sources that are posting things that everyone here would find relevant and interesting but not yet showing up on popular news sites (slashdot, digg, etc...).

I am working currently on thinking up some more original content, like Scrivs used to do(not the personal posts, but the informative ones), and find some sources in the technology and gaming industries that could maybe give me a heads up on things even a little bit before it goes mainstream.

I for one, totally appreciate your comment, and I can tell you understand our plight here at Forever Geek. I am a newer writer here, and I am still trying to find my footing and voice. Hopefully things will turn around, and we will exceed your expectations.

As for the weird 404 thing...I am lost on that one.

Sorry to rant, but a couple of thinks have been annoying the hell out of me about ForeverGeek lately.

1) For some odd reason, new posts return a 404 when you click on them for the first, wild estimate, 5 hours after they are posted. It's apparantly not consistent either. This post gave me a 404 since it was posted until just now, after the post was made about Episode 3. But the Episode 3 post's link worked just fine. It's happening more often than not, and shouldn't on a site of this caliber.

2) If I recall, Scrivs set up this site /specifically/ to not be another Slashdot, but rather a place to get all the stuff that you aren't already being fed through Slashdot. But I have to say, it's feeling a lot like Slashdot lately. This post here is a good example. Even the Slashdot comments debunk this as a load of crap, merely because it's not even a concept that's unique to Windows Vista. This kind of script could be created in pretty much any shell environment. And if you have someone who's running these kinds of scripts on their computer themselves, well crap, they might as well label the format command a virus that can wipe your hard drive. Sorry, wrong tangent. Anyway, it's not the post itself that bothers me, it's the "sensational posting" feel I got from reading it.

Another post that stands out as Slashdot-esque is the butterfly wackjob post from the Dreamhost blog. Was it really necessary to link to the Dreamhost blog home /and/ the specific post in the Dreamhost blog? If someone really can't get to the Dreamhost blog's home page from the individual entry, they really need help. This is a major problem on Slashdot. It can be hell trying to figure out which damn link in a Slashdot post goes the actual article the post is about, and which links are just uncessary links going to places we either don't care about or are obvious places to go to (like the homepage of the site the article is on).

Anyway, sorry to rant, but these have just been irking me lately. Don't misconstrue this as a negative post against FG. I love FG (it's on my daily reading), so I wanted to give the feedback. (And I can't even really tell you if I'm innocent of these crimes on my own site, but I would certainly want my visitors to speak up if that was the case.)
