Well, even before most consumers have Blu-ray readers in their computers, Pioneer has created their BRD-101A Blu-ray burner.

One of the strange things about the burner is that it cannot read or write normal CD’s or DVD-RAM. It will do both + and – R/RW DVD’s, so atleast it will have one generation backwards compatibility. It looks like this is just another way that Blu-ray is trying to get into the forefront of the race against HD-DVD.

No word on price as of yet, or how long it will take to burn a Blu-ray DVD, but I am very interested in seeing how this technology progresses as my hard drive is 120 Gigs, and I can’t back it all up on a reasonable amount of cheap/common media.
