Dell is known for low prices, but they are trying to turn that image around, or atleast grab some new customers that don’t like the cheaper products Dell ships out.
And while expensive Desktops and Laptops are nothing new, Dell said its new XPS line would be sold at higher prices and larger margins than its Dimension and Inspiron lines. With laptops starting at $2,700 and desktops starting at $1,100 you will sure notice a big difference in your pocket. Let’s just hope the people that buy these machines notice a difference in gaming and other power hungry applications.
“This will be our Lexus,” said Will Townsend, a Dell senior manager who gave reporters an early look at the machines.
Mike George, vice president and general manager of Dell’s consumer business in the United States, said: “It will appeal to the real technology enthusiast who understands what a dual-core processor is. But it will also appeal to a growing market that we see as underserved – the technology-oriented family.”
Am I missing something here? Dell XPS line has been out for at least two years. Is anything different, or is this just a new marketing campaign?
They are expanding it. Instead of just making gaming computers under the XPS name they are going to have a whole range of higher end computers and laptops under this flag. (Mostly its just for marketing though) :)
I would have to ask Mr. Townsend if they need testers I would be happy to test for them (and of course a free laptop isn’t all that bad either)
How about 1 for the price of two? I just got my (wonderful, in fact) XPS Gen2 laptop after 6 weeks, the first disappearing in the wilds of SouthEast Alaska. I have a Colleague who had a first generation XPS lappy which crapped out on him the day his warrranty (sorry, two r’s only) expired, but gaming and portability wise, this is the best job around…I even managed to save like 35% on it by googling discount codes for it…still, all the stress involved in the first lost one, and all the wonderful (complete lie!) tech and customer support people from “NOT HERE!” might in fact be worth more to me than the darn ‘puter itself…still, it does kick major but on Doom 3!
