First (real) 2.0 PSP homebrew game!
Tuesday, Sep. 27 2005 | Author: GriffithI was sick throughout the weekend, therefore I couldn’t be up to date with what was happening with the Sony PSP, but, apparently, the 2.0 firmware has been cracked.
It all started with rumors (well, one of them eventually turned out to be true), and then came the typical “Hello World” program, and finally the first game was released: Pong.
This is all great but the program seems to run on an image. Unless I’m mistaken there are two formats in which you can place code in: tifs and pngs. I’m not sure until what or if there are any limitations but if that happens to be part of the image encoding itself it will be more difficult for Sony to “protect” it’s console from the PSP homebrew scene.
The bad news is that everyone that was/is working on a down-grader no longer has a point in continuing to do so, and no more free Wifi for your neighbours (bad news for them). The good news is that we won’t have to rely upon homebrew browsers anymore and we can finally use our PSPs within a secure wireless network.
The next few days will probably be really interesting for the PSP owners, stay tuned!

To download the program, right click “Visit Site” and save it to your hard-drive. Then place it in your PHOTO folder on your PSP and execute it, that’s it.

22They say there is no 2.5 downgrader and at least to common knowledge there might not exist one… but hey thats what they said before when i was stuck – along with most people that bought a PSP in europe with 1.52 firmware. but they managed to find a bug make a downgrader and voila i have a 1.50 version and they will most certainly find another bug and make a new downgrader for 2.5. it might take time but i am confident it will evetually happen.

46all of you guys are gonna wait a few months before homebrew and downgrades for 2.5.
2.5 is brand new and sony HATES the maker of homebrew for psp. thats the whole reason for updating.
what i would do is not to upgrade and try to wait for v3.5 to come out, thats when all homebrew and downgrades come out for 2.5.

48Everyone who says there wont be homebrew for 2.50 is just saying that to get everyone jealous. Sony couldn’t have MENT to do it because over half of thier advertising campagain in Japan was that people could make their own games (if they had the skill) and play them on the PSP! If the next update doesn’t fix this mess, our favorite people in the world (hackers) will make either a downgrade or any other way to make homebrew games. Lets be honest, we’ll all have to download the update sooner or later to play the new PSP games coming out. (If you didn’t know, Sony made it so people had to download the update to play new games, i.e. The Con, StarWars BattleFront 2, and everything afterward.

49There is no fancy new blocker to prevent homebrew, no matter what anyone says. Programers and Hackers of America are working AS WE SPEAK (er… type) so they can put existing homebrews, AND new ones. I’ll take weeks, maybe even MONTHS for them to configure the games to be able to be played on 2.50, but it is possible eventually.

50I hate to be the berror of bad news guys… but, sniff, look… this is a quote from psp-hacks.com…
“For any of you homebrew devs out there working on cracking the 2.50 firmware SonyXTeam has released a warning you may want to look at:
SonyxTeam News We want to warn any team creating version changer programs that the 2.50 index.dat encryption pattern has changed, therefor you have 100% chances of bricking your psps if you try to use it in your flash.
Thatâs also why we are not using it on our version changer.
The reasons why sony would do such a thing are
- To prevent people from creating version changers (they failed to do so, since we know how to create our own index.dat)
- To prevent people on 2.50 from downgrading using an earlier index.dat version
- Because they think we are dumbasses that would brick some of our psps in the process (thatâs too bad since we didnât brick any of our psps as we tested the 2.50 index.dat using BFM firmware loader).
Also Sony wouldnât imagine us sniffing in their IPL and figuring out that the Version information is now located into the 2.50 IPL whitch means that the index.dat is now useless and has just the purpous to fool us (yeah $ony just failed mouhahaha, we are way smarter than they imagine, next time I do hope for their sake that they do betterâŠ.)”
Aperently Sony is trying to shut dowr the Homebrew program… And as far as our top codebreakers go… they’re winning… from what info i’ve gathered from websites and magizenes, I’ve made an inference on the impending doom that nears called:
THE SONY PLAN:
1. To stop production of Homebrew games, release a new Update.
2. To enforce downloading this update, all UMD’s produced from 9/1/05 onward will require the update to function.
3. Add more programs using updates to lure homebrew gamers.
4. Re-incrypt data files to make them different from Homebrew files.
5. Still using updates, make all files that are not pictures, music or movies incompatible with the PSP if they are not on a UMD.
I have to say that the age of Homebrew is over… because I don’t think anyone wants to miss “StarWars Battlefront 2″ of “GTA Liberty Stories.” It’s time to make a disision, with which there is no turning back…
Now that I have all that drama out of my system I wanna apologise for making such a long post. Im gonna crawl into a corner and cry at the loss of some of my favorite homebrew games.

66yeah, no shit chris, we should all be corporate whores and not use our psp’s for anything interesting. WE paid 400 bucks for the sucker, plus to get anything good on it youd have to buy a gig momory stick for a $150(GIGAPACK is late on purpose), im sure they can recover the cost(what cost?) of poeple playing roms and old dos games on their console.
Ripping full PSP games onto your memory card is stealing, it hurts sony (BOOHOO), but homebrews aren’t even the same thing dipshit.
BTW is the psp good enough to run psx roms? LIke an EPSXPSP(NWO2k6ALPHAPLUS)?
P.S. Ken Kutaragi thinks poeple don’t even use PSP outside their house, this man has no bearing on reality.

get the one you want (my favorite is the slick black theme) and download it.
its a zip file and what you do for zip files is keep pressing next until you see “unzip this file” or something like that. once you unzip it, click on the file, “winpsp300bt” or somethin like that. then you will see a file called “win” drag and drop it to your main root which has the two folders called mp root and psp. DO NOT DRAG AND DROP IT TO WEB BROWSER BECAUSE THAT WOULD SCREW IT UP!!. after you did all that, go to web browser on you psp and on the adress bar (the thing that you type in google.com or whatever site you wanna go to) and put in these exzact words: file:/win/index.html
then there you go. do not rename any files or that will not work.if somthing goes wrong then just tell me.

89OKAY guys, i just heard that sony made a new update, version 2.60. DON NOT BE TEMPTED TO UPGRADE!!!!! its just like the 2.5 version.they just added some stuff 2 the location free player. if ur so interested in 2.5 homebrew and downgrading, DONT UPGRADE. this is a start. before u know it, they will have homebrew and all the other stuff will be here for 2.5. take my advice.

122im afraid this exploit isnt going to allow you to play emus in the way that you can with 1.5 ( easily ) . So dont get your hopes up too high people. The only thing we can really hope for is a downgrader. Sony has just about won this war- However, we should focus on 2.0 and below. A custom firmware that allows updatable compents will be the cureall.- There are already 3 shells being developed for the psp so were almost there :) I for one would kill for a kde desktop on my psp and the ability to play all games and emus!! :)

124first, there is now a homebrew hack for 2.01 and 2.50 without downgrading. second, don’t be bitchin cuz you got stuck with a later verion of the friggin firmware, because every time you enter a psp post, there is at least one idiot that is too damn lazy to go into google and type in “2.50 homebrew”, third I’ve been ranting way too long, and fourth, just wait it out, look what happened. sony thought they stopped homebrew forever with 1.51 and 1.52, but those overpricing idiots over at sony got thier ass hacked quicker than they could put the next update out, so sit back and ride it out…your time will come.

139Everytime there is any sort of information posted about PSP it the comments eventually turn into a whine fest about downgrading your firmware, first off if you bought it with firmare 1.51 or above deal with it, it will get worked out in time, second if you bought it with 1.5 and “accidently” upgraded to play GTA:LCS then deal with it its your own fault. We will work out the firmware eventually, there will be a UMD Emulator for 2.0 and above and there are already downgraders for 2.0. Nobody is going to rush just becuase you whine alot. So stop your fussin and a fuedin’ and just play a game or something until what ya need gets made.

180See the thing i’m wondering now that they have 2.71 firmware out is if at all they will be trying to crack the 2.5 and 2.60 firmwares… Sony has been upgrading firmware versions so quickly that it would almost seem pointless to hackers to try and crack the 2.60 firmware version when higher versions are out there.. The current firmware version is most likely to be the current hackers job. I was wondering though if sony itself would ever sell games online that are of homebrew type.. Like sell them for any firmware version and they end up downloading on your memory card compressed and everything.

186don’t you guys understand, sony are in it for the money. now that they’ve sold the PSPs they’ve made money, they sell games and movies on UMD disks because the public cannot. They bring out this new firmware to make sure you BUY games and BUY movies so they can sit in their multi million pound offices with their toffee nosed executives and spend all our money on some othe plans for domination of the console industry. Sony will make sure no one can hack the codes for 2.5 or 2.6 and im sure if it ever happens, the psp will break. Sony will do anything for money. The best thing to do is to stop trying to hack the psp, dont downgrade, just swap your one for another with the 1.5 firmware and dont buy games that require 2.6. Thats right. Live without decent games.
Stop hacking the psp and put your effort into making your OWN console and programming. its not as hard as it looks. the psp is dead. We must wait for a different manufacturer to invent a better device.

190Can some one please help me sit up multiplayer on psp, i wanna play liberty city 2player with my bro and we both have unlock liberty cirty and i have turn the WLAN on but still is not working, this is what i have done i have put the game on and i click start and choos multiplayer and i chose jone game it didn’t work i tryed host game still same thing. can anyone please help me out pleaseeee pretty please :(

192i did the stupid thing and upgraded my psp to 2.80 then i found out homebrew games only work with 1.5 or other..is there any 2.80 downgraders yet..if there is EMIAL me.. vaver16@yahoo.com and vaver16@hotmail.com..
