I’ll keep this as short and sweet as I can with just a small warning: This downgrader works, but that does not mean there isn’t any risk in using it so use at your own risk; nor ForeverGeek nor the creator of it will be responsible for it’s misuse.
Steps to use the MPH downgrader:
- Create an UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder
- Unpack MPHDowngrader.zip
- Copy overflow.tif in your PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
(make sure you have changed your background to frame_buffer.png as explained in the toc2rta exploit.)
- Copy h.bin in root of your memory stick
- Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick
- Plug the AC adaptorWhat you do next is go into the Photo Menu on the PSP and it will show some jumbled text, which is normal. Wait about 30 seconds and then restart your PSP.
From there you will now have a new file in your PSP?s root directory called ms0:/index.dat.bak. In the next step you will go to you Game Menu, Then Memory Stick, and then Launch ?PSP Update ver 1.50.?
It will then ask you to downgrade and lead you along to installing. Here is where I got scared. It installed to 99% then errored. This is OK. Restart your PSP and reboot it. It will come up with another error which is OK as well. Restart it again and you will have PSP firmware version 1.50. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of legal homebrew, not piracy.

yo you need kxploit to make the emus work for 1.50 ON SOME HOMEBREW. and some already come v 1.50 prepped. example: when you see a 2 folders like this:
EMULATOR —-> EMULATOR%
thats when you know its 1.50 prepped. the folder without the % sign is where you put all extra files. you dont need to worry about the folder with the %.
and thes folders go into the game folder. EXAMPLE: my folder looks like this

Your Root folder is the first folder on the memory card, you will see PSP, MP_ROOT etc in there, just the first thing you see when you open the drive.
It works fine with version 2.0, This wont work with 2.01, but im sure there will be another crack released sooner or later. Just becareful updating your PSP over Wi-Fi as it will update to version 2.01.

Yeah, 2.01 does suck ass. NeXuS, when a downgrader comes out, you will probably know about it. the 2.0 downgrader is all over the web. And when another one does come out, theres a good chance Sony will update their systems again. So when you see an update for PSP, don’t update, look for a downgrader.

I hate to be the berror of bad news guys… but, sniff, look… this is a quote from psp-hacks.com…

Aperently Sony is trying to shut dowr the Homebrew program… And as far as our top codebreakers go… they’re winning… from what info i’ve gathered from websites and magizenes, I’ve made an inference on the impending doom that nears called:
THE SONY PLAN:
1. To stop production of Homebrew games, release a new Update.
2. To enforce downloading this update, all UMD’s produced from 9/1/05 onward will require the update to function.
3. Add more programs using updates to lure homebrew gamers.
4. Re-incrypt data files to make them different from Homebrew files.
5. Still using updates, make all files that are not pictures, music or movies incompatible with the PSP if they are not on a UMD.
I have to say that the age of Homebrew is over… because I don’t think anyone wants to miss “StarWars Battlefront 2″ of “GTA Liberty Stories.” It’s time to make a disision, with which there is no turning back…

2.50 sucks. i dont no why i updated it to 2.50. 2.50 doesnt even do anything to update the psp apart from making u ave location free player. to look at it on the bright side for people who have updated: in version 3.0 when it comes out, it will have a lot of new features to make your psp better, and you wont wont to miss that. it will also include security updates for the psp, so when you update to 3.0, you wont be able to run homebrew. believe me, i think that 3.0 will too good to miss and you must update when it comes out

I don’t know anything about psp hacking or how ever it is you all created the homebrew for versions 1.0 and 1.5 . What did the update do to prevent anyone from creating homebrew for 2.5 or even a downgrader for 2.5? I was advised to upgrade by a friend and now cannot run homebrew which is half the reason I got a PSP in the firs place!

I just recently Bought a PSPv2.01 (I was too late to buy the PSPv1.5 that was just released for a few days across europe) Im quite good in hacking things… But, for several hours, I still cant find a way around PSPv2.01

yeah… i totally screwed myself, i had 2.0 and tried to download the downgrader, but norton antivirus detected it every time and i didn’t know how to shut that off… so i figured what the heck and upgraded, now i’m just really sad… cuz… i.. LOVE OLD SKOOL GAMES i’m praying for these hacks…

Man! Sony must be frustrated as hell right now. I mean, weather they like it or not, the psp will become the next gp32. They are beating a dead horse. I just got a PSP so I’m new to all of this stuff. So are you lot trying to get other console games to work on PSP? (that would be cool) Thats what it seems like but would this also let you download PSP games for free thus saving me hundreds of pounds on games? P.S. My PSP is V 2.01.
I’m in the same boat as you guys… I copied some of my DVDs onto the memory stick which is great but I bought the thing to play old genesis games and arcade games as I was brought up with them…
The think is I buy new games too and I am really annoyed at Sony because it’s just like a PC, you can buy new games and still play mame etc. what are they scared of? Locking a system with these capabilities will simply open up the market for someone who creates something simple and open!
The big question I have is if 2.5 hacks come out, how will we find out if Sony have people out there pouncing on people letting the rest of us know?

There is no currently available way to make an emulator for any version from 2.50 or 2.60 because of Sony’s directly adressing that problem with the fullproofing of the firmware system. That’s why people are trying to downgrade to old software instead of making a new emulator. Case closed again, bitches.
PS: Remember, Sony does this kind of shit for a living so they’re a little ahead of the curve in the hacking department.

Ive finally found the 2.01 and 2.5 homebrew application. its called ebootloader and now you can run these homebrew apps on your 2.01 and 2.5. You can download it at the site i wrote at the top. Im so happy. the only thing is that you need to register there first. But heck, its worth the time

Do you know what really sucks? I bought King Kong for $50 and had to update to 2.50 before playing. I played the game on xbox so I thought it would be cool on psp also. IT SUCKS! Stop asking for a 2.0+ downgrader, or when it is going to be available…. As soon as it is ready everybody will know and, OF COURSE, it will be TOTALLY free.
It might not even come to light as the effort that SONY is putting into making the PSP system more secure gets better with every firmware release.
As an advice, stay as low as possible (2.01 preferably) and wait patiently for a good hacker to hack the firmware.
Beware of ALL those links asking you to pay for a downgrader… THEY ARE ALL FAKES. Someones must be getting rich because of it.

it does i tried it but…… be cautious as ive bricked over 24 psp’s trying to use it.
Oh and just so you know just in case you didnt the reason firmware on 2.5 and 2.6 arent here you have to hack pass security higher firmware means higher security the 1.5 is the easist of all to run homebrew on just not the most secure the 1.00 (yes you can officially downgrade to 1.0 as of march 22nd) however has the lowest security of all exept for 0.50 which is EXTREMLY RARE! like 5 psp released and no downgrader however the 1.00 psp WILL NEVER BRICK IN A DOWNGRADE OR UPGRADE it has almost no security on the downside its scrren looks VERY CRAPPY but who cares1.5 is just the easiiest one to run homebrew on not the most secure Seidoku OUT!
oh i left something out you must have a virgin PsP to go 1.0 a psp that has never upgraded or downgraded (the firmware hasnt been touched and im guessing now you all have probably either have non-virgin PsP’s or bricked PsP’s
I tried it and it didn’t work. Not sure if I had the instructions right, do you need to have frame_buffer.png as background? i tried that as well but it didn’t seem to have any effect.
I did all this:
Installation :
- Create a UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in UPDATE folder
- Unpack DocsDowngrader.zip
- Copy _num file into your PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy h.bin in root of your memory stick
- Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick
- Plug the AC adaptor
But it did not seem to automatically start the downgrade at all.

first of all, if Sony would listen to Hacker’s ideas (like PSPaint or a alarm clock or a GPS navigation system for the PSP) no one would attempt to crack firmware.
Homebrews are the way to costumize the psp yourself.

look, i recently got a psp as a present, and i wanted it over a DS for one purpose, it could play ISO’s and Hombrew, i didn’t care about anything else, and i preferred DS games, but ISO’s make things so much easier, i mean, what would you prefer, lugging around 10 UMD’s OR 2 flash sticks.
So, this is what i ask, send me any advice on the following
1. Using ISO’s
2. Using Hombrew’s
3. Downgrading

Forget about 1 and 2, before 3. Downgrading of 2.50 is not exists yet… So, U have to wait or buy GTA LC on original UMD.

As you all know Sony are trying to stop all people like us from Homebrew and all that kinda crazy shit BUT there is ONE way that you can downgrade without the troble of brickin yr PSP n stuff! I’VE DOWNGRADED FROM 2.60 TO 1.50!!!!! I expect you lot are thinking TIME WASTER, FUK OFF YOU NOOB and stuff like that…your wrong!
As most of you know there’s that GTA Eboot loader thingy flying around the web some place…well, grab that, get the files copyed over to your PSP n stuff, Grab yourself a copy of GTA Liberty City Stories, put on the update into your GAME Folder, Run GTA, the game should load up n stuff as it normaly does, and as the game is loading, the screen should go black for about 5 – 7 seconds and pop up with a diffrent screen with a white PSP and a list of what PBP’s you’ve got in your GAME folder, Load up the file that upgrades/downgrades your PSP and it should work on from there!….Sometimes the screen will go black and stay black and turn itself off this is exactly what happened to me about 5 times but keep at it and it WILL work!
I hope this helps you as much as it helped me…Since i DID find out this method myself!

When you have 2.6 then you must edit the PARAM.SFO in the eboot but ist not working

But I have a friend that works for Game Informer and he has a friend that is actually working on the 2.6 Downgrader for PSP-Hacks! Alright, so I’ve been playing homebrew a while now onto my psp and I knew the danger of upgrading to a version 2.0 but just a couple of days ago I’ve bought legend of heros for my psp and it required me to update to a version 2.0. I’ve held back for as long as I can and for a while I’ve been playing final fantasty 3 onto my psp, good stuff. Anyways I heard about the MPH downgrader and I thought “hey now, if I update I can also downgrade whenever I’d want to” but that didn’t seem to be the case for me. As soon as I upgraded to version 2.0 I’ve been trying to get the downgrader to work. The problem that I’ve been having is about the overflow.tif file. When I unzipped the MPH downgrader file I’ve found everything else I’ve needed to find except that file. Well..it’s there actually but it’s not showing up. When I used search for hidden files on my computer it popped up but I tried sending it to PSP/PHOTO and it looks like it’s still not there. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me on this. Thanks.

Why don’t you all just wait a while for an ACTUAL official downgrader for v2+ that has been approved that it actualy works like that, MPH downgrader. Just to be sure that it’s safe and won’t brick your PSP. I know it won’t be easy waiting, i’m even dieing for it,,but i can wait.

I have found a way to hack version v2.6. The dummy index file has an encyption which includes info on how to get into the real file. If you have an olden time hex hacker the nubmers for the file are: 11011010 followed by the drive letter ur psp is
run this and it will fine the encryption. Bingo, you have the ibfo needed to have the real files, and therefore bypass the version 2.6 blockage XD

There is an advert on the above site that gives you the firmware for free to downgrade your PSP from 2.5/6/7 to 1.5. You have to provide your email address but you just need to give them a fake one ;-)
I have 3 versions of loco roco, the first is on an original demo UMD which contains other official game demos & also contains a v2.00 update???, this came with the official psp magazine in the U.K. The second is on an official loco roco demo UMD which was shipped along with a game I purchased, this UMD contains a v2.6 update???, and lastly the v2.71 downloaded version of loco roco, I updated to my PSP to v2.7(doh!) before i had any of them. The point is that both umd versions work on my PSP but obviously the v2.71 will not? I think that gives a few clues away as to the extent of the encryption, so would it help if someone (who knows a lot more than me!) was able to compare the Umd versions with the downloaded one??? I would be happy to supply on of the original UMD disks for this purpose, what do ya think? can usefull information be extracted and utilised?

i have a PBP loader for 2.7. It is working for about half the homebrew files i tried. im still working on it. It is a flash file that you access through the web browser. you select your eboot.pbp and it loads it. i will post a link when i am done. i will finish in about a week.

i thought that the gta eloader had an isoloader but it doesnt and that made my mad cause i upgraded my psp to 2.60 to try out naruto but what happened? there wasnt any isoloader for it they should work for an isoloader that can work with gta eloader-.-

Hey check this out, there is an advert on the above website with a link for a downgrader for 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 version to downgrader to 1.5
It looks to me like it is genuine cos I used them before and it worked.

Ok guys u know what???? Thats it!! i had it; face it everyone they will never create a 2.6 downgrader. I given up hope; you should too. I had been searching for a 2.6 downgrader for months just like yourself and i have found nothing but bullshit. Iv wasted my time. Right now, i just play grand theft auto on he psp but thats it. i dont give a shit about homebrew anymore and, right now im focusing to buy the ps3 and nintendo wii. HEY ANY PSP CODERS LISTEN TO THIS!
Im trying to trick the psp into acccepting the the 2.00 update by changing the “UPDATER version 2.00″ to “UPDATER version 2.8″ the problem is that when i open it with word or any word processer then when i save it it automaticly corrupts the file. Is there any way to modify the .pbp file without corrupting it?
I want to modify this part of the file so the PSP won’t reply by saying you have 2.71 there is no need to update. I tried using “PSP Brew 0.80″ to modify the update version but it won’t let me! Im not a coder but i thought this might work… so any coders out there please tell me what u think and please try to make this work yourself.

Dudes it is now july. there is a 2.60 downgrader i used it. i got it off bearshare because my bro told me about it. It works. My psp is now 1.5 and i used this thing called DeviceHook and have now got: virtua tennis, micro machines v4, Practical intelligence, dragonball z shin budokai, tomb raider legends and juiced eliminator. Buy the way i use CSO’s not ISO’s trust me it works. P.s. sorry i didnt provide a link and u peeps might be swearing but eventually some dude will put it on their site. Hopefully soon. But my other psp is 2.7 and i cant homebrew. But as one of the guys on here said, you just have to wait. Dudemanguyperson, out.

I didn’t realize that Sony was had disabled Homebrew until I actually tried to add some homebrews to my PSP. So now I have 2.8 and I am definitely going to have trouble downgrading. I wish that Sony would just ok the homebrews. Homebrews seem so fun. (I mainly just want to play my GBA and GBC and GB games on the PSP so I can finally get rid of my SP and get a DS). Of course, SNES emulator is also nice. I’m trying to get everything into more effective formats since I’m having trouble storing all of my stuff.

If you have a 2.8fw, there is no downgrader yet and you cannot play homebrew, you can look at the picture but then ur psp will just freeze. Be patient and wait for a 2.8 downgrader, then you will be able to play downloaded homebrew PSP games on it aswell

4.Access the hw.tiff in Photo menu
5.Wait until it appears
