At the pre-TGS press briefing, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox 360 will be region locked for both games and DVD movie playback, meaning that you can’t play games or watch DVD movies from another region other than the one your Xbox 360 is locked to.

2Howcome I frequently see ergion-free DVD players being sold in shops here? And I’m not talking about chinese importers, “famous” nacional stores?

3That’s probably because it’s not enforced as hard at vender level. Personally, I’ve seen many region-free players at small shops, but not at big stores like best buy.
Good news is that manufacturers have nothing to gain from region-locking, so they appease the movie industry by having it on their machine, and appease the customers by making it easy to crack with the right combination of buttons on the remote (if you haven’t already, google your player’s code). Well, not all players are that easy: some players make you flash(which you don’t wanna do) and some make it hardware(chip) based, and you’re just screwed. YMMV

4All dvd players on sale here in europe are region free.
It’s the first thing people will tear out.
As the US ‘license’ does not apply to european laws.

5when dvd players were first released in the U.S., they were region free. after noticing, america went,”oh, no..we’re gay and stupid so lets make something gay and stupid.”
and voila. now i live here, and it sucks.

6That’s so shit. Was going to replace my DVD player with my 360 as it’s all hooked up nicely to my HDTV and the picture is really clear but I have a bunch of Asian films and some US version DVDs so won’t be able to play them on my 360. That sucks.
Microsoft is gay.

9REgion locked is bull S%$T. I dont know why they would do that. All dvd players and game systems should be region free. Eventually they all will be. Only a matter of time. Microsoft is living in the dark ages.
