Microsoft has become the main contender in talks to purchase a major stake in America Online, a news report said Monday.
The New York Times, quoting two people involved in the negotiations, said that Microsoft began discussing a possible joint venture with AOL a few months ago, but that there were still other contenders including Yahoo, News Corp. and Google.
Microsoft + AOL = Web Wasteland? Well, I don’t really know about that, but I would be interested to see what changes would be made to AOL and of course to Microsoft. Is there any features that either “web experiences” have that could mix together to make something worthwhile?

1Both Microsoft and AOL are out of touch, they would make such a perfect pairing!
Actually, I don’t think that either are out of touch truely with their customer base, they just don’t take the time to do a proper bug hunt on their programs. They also spend way too much time loading down their programs with “features”, interpretted, they mean, ‘memory hogs’!
