It looks like Sykpe is trying to take on the big dogs by moving to the retail market, though not with a company that I would pick to distribute it: RadioShack. The good thing is it is cheap, and includes 30 minutes of talk time to call from Skype to regular telephones.
Skype Technologies SA makes its debut appearance in 3,500 RadioShack stores across the U.S. today, a distribution move aimed at bringing VOIP to a wider set of U.S. broadband users.
RadioShack is selling a âSkype starter pack,â which consists of a 4-inch-by-4-inch clear plastic sack containing the Skype software, a white plastic ear bud headset with the Skype logo, and a voucher for 30 free minutes of SkypeOut toll service.
The “pack” looks like something one might find in a gumball machine or a box of Count Chocula, but for now it can only be found at the ‘Shack. Retail price: $4.99 until Christmas
