I love technology so much, but fake trees to clean the air? I think it is an interesting idea, and I do agree that we need something to work on cleaning the air that our parents and grand parents so nicely polluted for us.
Normally I would say “Plant a tree”, but this technology is upwards of 1000x better than a natural tree.
A scientist has invented an artificial tree designed to do the job of plants.
But the synthetic tree proposed by Dr Klaus Lackner does not much resemble the leafy variety.
“It looks like a goal post with Venetian blinds,” said the Columbia University physicist, referring to his sketch at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Denver, Colorado.
But the synthetic tree would do the job of a real tree, he said. It would draw carbon dioxide out of the air, as plants do during photosynthesis, but retain the carbon and not release oxygen.

1What good is a tree that purifies the air if there’s no oxygen left in it?
I’m not against initiatives like this but scientists, organizations and governments should worry more about preserving the little life we have left on our planet before we turn our world into one of those pos-apocalyptic scenarios like in the Mad Max movies.

2Would probably be better off putting money into genetically modifying existing plants to be more efficient recyclers of air.
But man, griffith, that’s a hell of a stretch. Alarmist much?

3I’m not worried about myself, but in three to four generations from now it will already be the scenario for some countries, including my own: Portugal.
