Richard McKinnon from feedburner blog has written an interesting article about where RSS came from and where it’s headed in the future. Right now RSS is being implemented on almost all platforms from cellphones and video game consoles to computers (and possibly in some high-tech toilets in Japan) and in the future they will play an even more vital role on the web.
With the deep implementation of RSS on Windows Vista and Microsoft’s own ideas for the protocol (Kudos to Brian that made a comment on the original article) even the average Joe will start using more advanced technologies. In the future I guess we will probably have a convergence of websites and RSS files altogether.
What’s also interesting about the article is a comparison between the uses of RSS in 2003 compared to how and by who it’s used now.
A very interesting read. It’s nice to see that something that bloggers started is now having such a use influence in the programs we use and see today. Perhaps, one day we will inspire the companies that hire us to understand concepts such as design, usability and common sense, then again, maybe not, but we can always dream, right?
Wow, there has been a great deal of improvements as well as new services coming up lately. Market is changing and is growing very fast. To stay ahead of the game, one has to come up or develop some out of the box “product”. As it looks from this article, things will get very competitive in the future.
