The executives close to the talks said that at AOL’s request, Google would begin to test various forms of graphical ads, and that it would make the same formats available to other advertisers. Google has started to sell graphical ads for placement on other sites; plans to do so on Google itself were accelerated by the AOL talks, an executive involved in the negotiations said.
I hope Google does not change its advertisements too much any time soon, as their ads are sometimes ugly enough as it is. I hope that Google’s values and way of doing things permiates AOL, and not the other way around.

the end of the Age of Google is quickly approaching. First a part stake in AOL of all un-godly things, and now graphical adds would seal it’s fate. The beauty of Google is how fast it runs, and this is in large part due to the abscence of slow-loading graphics on it’s search and email pages.
Say it ain’t so.
anyone want 100 gmail invites?
I’ll trade you my 100 for your 100 :P
It sounds really bad, but I’ll have to see it first before making judgements. If you think about it, you load graphics every time you use google anyway: Google logo is graphic as well, though it’s very well optimized for the size (8k). If they keep it under 10k without animation, there wouldn’t be much difference at all even for people using 56k.
Besides which, it’s all rumors at this point. Since when did “executives close to the talks” hold any credibility?
