If you think about it, you load graphics every time you use google anyway: Google logo is graphic as well, though it's very well optimized for the size (8k). If they keep it under 10k without animation, there wouldn't be much difference at all even for people using 56k. Besides which, it's all rumors at this point. Since when did "executives close to the talks" hold any credibility? It sounds really bad, but I’ll have to see it first before making judgements. The beauty of Google is how fast it runs, and this is in large part due to the abscence of slow-loading graphics on it's search and email pages.
