Berlin May Get Its Own Domain

A German entrepreneur sometime next year hopes he will be able to boast, “Ich bin ein dot-Berliner.”

The businessman, Dirk Krischenowski, is bidding to make his city the first in the world with its own domain name: .berlin. Berlin’s businesses and citizens will flock to the domain because millions of people regard the hip European city as a part of their identities, he believes.

I think the Internet would be so confusing if city extensions were opened up. I live in the Ottawa Area, which is composed of a few cities that have been amalgamated under the Ottawa banner. Does that mean the local sites would all be .ottawa? Or would they go as far as having each of the cities having their own extension? Would I be looking in the wrong place if I typed in pizzahut.ottawa instead of pizzahut.nepean?

Though it would be nice to have some more domains opened up for people, I think having anymore TLD’s would just be confusing. What do you think? What extensions would you like to see added? Your city? Last name? .XXX?

i think it’s like this if the business is city-centered, not global it should have the town name at the end.
Besides if they want, then why not.

At least .xxx and .kids to be able to seperate some usergroups.

I live in Berlin, and a such a domain would definitely cool, but I would prefer “.berlin.de”, like .com.de, that would not be that confusing in the end..
For Ottawa that would obviously be .ottawa.ca

    I like Julian’s suggestion :)

Never order from pizzahut.vanier, my friend.
