Yesterday, Apple announced two new Macintosh computers that run using Intel processors. The two were the iMac and the MacBook Pro. The announcements excited many dedicated Apple fans who have been waiting for a major update to the mobile pro line for years. The products were introduced by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computers, and he explained how the newer models were 2x – 4x faster than their predecessors. What wasn’t mentioned during the keynote was whether or not users would be able to run Windows on their Macintosh.
Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple commented on the whole situation:
“That’s fine with us. We don’t mind,” Schiller said. “If there are people who love our hardware but are forced to put up with a Windows world, then that’s OK.”
I shiver at the tought of seeing a Powerbook (or should I say MacBook?) or an iMac booting Windows.
I think it’s a good move by Apple. Their profit is in hardware, and allowing Windows to boot can’t hurt. I play games and use MS-only apps at work, so Apple was never an option for me but now they have one more potential customer. As soon as someone confirms problem-less duel boot, I’m cracking open my piggy bank.
There’s a slight problem. No right click. Unless that is just hidden, but from the pictures it looks like one button. I’m sorry Apple, but if you want people to be at ease when switching to mac you have to include a right click.
Apple did that Justin. They made MIGHTY MOUSE! It’s a mouse with more than one button. Ohh, and a scroll wheel. No really. That’s all it is. :P
Allowing Winders to run on Mac Hardware is a really great move by Apple if you think about it. First of all it tempts Windowz users to look over the fence. They might start switching to OS X and it’s GUI goodness and all the iHype associated with Apple. If nothing else, it will allow Apple to sell one more machine. Either way, it’s a win for Apple and a win for the consumer. Now if only they will let me run OS-X on my PC I’ll be set :)

Yeah, as soon as they can get dual boot working for mac and ms together I’m seriously considering it.
It’s funny how obsessed people get over the mac. “OMG run windows on the mac?!” lol. I’ve been a mac user since 1986, and I think being able to duel boot into windows is a VERY good thing. Quite frankly, windows runs some apps the mac doesn’t, and runs them a heck of a lot better. For example, Quicken. And Palm Desktop sync. And most games.
With duel boot, I never have to get upset that I can’t run this or that program. I can run any game I want, and if windows craps out or gets a virus, I still have my mac. Brilliant.
