Even though it seems that naoneo has abandoned or at least frozen his PSP shell development, there is another “shell” in the works that is already (surprisingly) functional.

In it’s current version you can load your homebrew software from it’s “start menu”, change theme and background, see pictures (although, with limited sizes).

It is already prepared for multi-language, and will certainly see that coming in a very near version (actually I think it’s just a matter of someone converting the text).

Despite some limitations, I think the shell is good enough to use right now. If they can hook up with a developer that has flashing experience such as MPH or Yoshihiro and give the users an option to boot their PSPs with the shell, then things are already halfway done for them. Since it’s open source, and moduled, it should be easy enough for any developer to add their applications for it.

Things are a bit slow on PSP development indeed, but then again, some of the most amazing projects, such as this one and the Quake 2 rendered by the PSP’s hardware are seeing the light of day.

I told you this was going to be a great year for PSP homebrew, and we haven’t even hit half of the first month.
