From as long as I remember ForeverGeek, back when I was a reader, comments have always been open and without many, if any, restrictions. This is of course because there was no need to restrict it since people always replied with maturity and back then I can’t remember one time when comments got out of hand.
Nowadays, that unfortunately doesn’t happen anymore. When someone posts about a loved gadget like the iPod or the PSP there will almost always be some friction between the commenters.
You wouldn’t believe some comments I get on some really old articles that drive a lot of traffic.
I will not close the comments on these past articles because despite the stupid and childish replies there is still a fair amount of good comments and in some there are even updates that the users bring themselves, and I thank them for that. However, in future articles, if things get carried away I will close the comments with no further notice. I hate that some good and frequent readers might have to “suffer” due to this, and trust me, I really hate it when some law or rule is imposed due to the abuses of ill-intended people.
Of course, I won’t close the comments if someone makes a comment saying that they disliked my article or my oppinion on any subject, that is different. I always like hearing what other people have to say, and as every other person that posts here (I think), I’m only human, and mistakes do happen.
The only thing I ask of everyone is common sense. I’d really appreciate if before you commented you’d remember:
- ForeverGeek isn’t a forum for Questions and Answers, we might help answer some things, but this isn’t a tech support site. There are other sites for that purpose, we are just a technology/geek blog.
- We won’t e-mail you updates on any subject. We don’t have mailing lists and that is what the feeds (or RSS files) are for
- You can use swear words, but in controlled manner. Good Example: “Bah, I really hate that company, f*** them” Bad Example:”OMG WTF?!? YOU suXXors my b0x0rs, PSP sucks, DS rules!!11!! F*** SONY Pwnt pwnt!” (Yes, we get some comments like that)
- We won’t give you links for you to download illegal programs/ISOs/whatevers
- Please, please PLEASE use common sense. If you don’t have any, I’d appreciate if you kept your oppinions to yourself
I’m sorry about this rant everyone, but I just felt that it was about time someone spoke up.
PS – I will only close comments on my own articles, other editors are free to do as they wish, however, I and the team would appreciate if you followed the same rules for all articles.

WTF. Comment deleter.
pwnt
To be completely honest, the site isn’t at all what it used to be. I used to check multiple times a day because it was an wonderful source for information in the tech industry. Ever since the transition the site seems to be completely focused on Mac, the PSP, or the iPod. I don’t know, maybe people just want what it was originally. Sort of like TechTV.
f*** them i want some good articles up here .OMG WTF?!? YOU suXXors my b0x0rs, PSP sucks, DS rules!!11!! F*** SONY Pwnt pwnt!
just kidding you dont have to block these comments to this article now do you.
but its true the articles on this blog are getting a bit one sided and focused on Mac – ipod and PSP. some more commics – games – entertainment would be nice.
im pretty new to this site and i like it a lot, its up there with neowin.net for me.
im not sure about the anonymous comment system though, if i really like a site then i will take the time to subscribe to it.
I try to bring a bit of variety when I can. However I don’t always have the time to write a critique for a game or program, I just try to at least enumerate the updates.
As for the editors, currently there are only two that belonged to the “old” generation of ForeverGeek that still post, myself and Jeremy.
Some of you mention that the quality of the articles is decreasing and that the old FG was better, which is a bit ironic, since most of the bad comments received on FG appear on mine and Jeremy’s articles.
I admit that some of my later articles might not be as good as before. But I think that quality wise, the commenters quality and relevance decreased more than the articles’. Mind you, we have some really great comments, for example, I love cliche’s comments, they are almost all filled with sarcastic humour and sometimes they make something I write worthwhile. There are others also of course which I enjoy.
The thing that pleases me the most is when I see someone finding one of my articles useful and there’s alot of input. Like the one I did about the Icon Buffet’s give away.
Also, the submission forum isn’t working at the moment, therefore it’s very hard for ForeverGeek to get any scoops since most of them are user submitted.
When things are fixed, and they will be very soon, I’m hoping the quality will improve and we’ll be able to build a good community once again, not only in blog readership but also in the forums.
I hope I didn’t sound too much as a politician, but believe me, I really want the best for ForeverGeek. And I’m giving my best also according to the available time I have.
Umm you misspelt “opinion” dude.
Wtf n00bz0r? :p
I have to agree with Anon wholeheartedly. We’re all hoping you guys get whatever is broken fixed ASAP and allow the community to help you grow.
I have to agree with evilKat and Anon as well. I think there will continue to be people more familiar with the old FG lurk or comment selectively (depending upon their interest in the article); we’re a pretty patient bunch but I really hope that the issues get worked out.
The forums for FG were just getting going when all of a sudden they went bye-bye months ago. Just a suggestion, but perhaps the forums in some capacity could be brought back while the other issues are being worked on?
Yup, and if you guys need help setting this stuff up, you should call out to the community…coz i mean we’re all geeks over here >3
Thank you for your help, but I don’t think that the problem is lack of knowledge. It’s just lack of time.
Thank you for your replies
@Tiberius: No, not n00bz0r, p0rtuguez0r
Grif, I didn’t mean to imply there was a lack of knowledge on the site admin’s end. Rather if you don’t have the time, get some of the community to help you set up some of this shit…I’m sure there are some old timers here that you guys can trust to do a good job…or failing that maybe you need one or two more admins to get the ball rolling.
I understand what you mean, and I thank you for your suggestion and interest. I’m certain that if any help was needed we’d ask. But being a professional blog there are certain limitations on the publishers we can have or afford.
There will be however a new blog opening up soon dedicated to PSP news and I’m looking for editors to help me out there. If you, or anyone you know, might be interested feel free to contact me at griffith.pt {AT} gmail.com
By ‘before,’ most people probably mean before you and Jeremy joined, as much as before FG was sold. You guys both started out posting opinionated stuff that started flamewars right off. Some of the other editors suggested to Scrivs that you were a bad choice for the site, but I don’t think he cared much at that point, as he was looking at selling it.
The fact that you need to censor comments on your own entries should be an indicator for you.
FG used to rock. Now, well, your news is a week later than most places, there’s never anything particularly original, mostly just clips from other sites, and it’s mostly stuff that panders to the sort of people you’re complaining about receiving comments from.
Perhaps you’re right JC. Thank you very much for your words.
I don’t know what this site was like in the “old days” but as a newcomer, I feel the site could use a little more breadth of subject matter, and more articles. Seems like some days only 1 or two new articles appear. Not much point having it on my RSS feed list when there are so few new things to read.
Just my $.02
As one of the writers here, I will try to give FG some more lovin’. I have just been very busy with some other projects. Feel free to submit any scoops or stories you might have, or subjects you feel we don’t highlight enough on here to my personal e-mail at david[dot]phoenix@gmail[dot]com and I will do my best to get the ball rolling more effectively here.
can you send me a free psp
