A few days ago I wrote an article that Microsoft planned to end XP Home support on the end of the current year. The support date has been however extended by two years after Windows Vista’s release with little or no announcement at all.
This seems like a normal decision for most people seeing how used XP Home is, however what is weird is that now Microsoft is acting like they never intended to end the support so soon. However, according to Ken Fisher from ArsTechnica, he contacted Microsoft representatives two times and was confirmed that the support cutoff date would in fact be on the last day of this year.
What a Microsoft program manager said was:
This was brought to our attention late last week, and since then, we have worked diligently to make the change on the site, which was effective Tuesday night,” she said. “It was not a change in support policy. It is reflective of the policy as we understand it.
Hearing Microsoft’s announcements seems to be almost as bad as listening to politicians’ promises now.

1I thought it was rather obvious that they’d extend the support. The consumer outrage would have been huge if they had not done it.
