ComputerWorld is reporting that Amazon is planning to launch an online music store to compete with Apple’s iTunes. To accompany the store, Amazon will sell a branded portable music player.
The company is in advanced talks with four global music companies about a digital music service that could be launched as early as this summer, according to the report. With its history of selling CDs online and its huge customer base, Amazon could pose a formidable threat to Apple’s domination of the online music business.
With the success they have had with online sales of Books and CDs, this could be the first serious competitor for iTunes.

One Response for "Amazon Planning iTunes Competitor"

1I really don’t think Amazon would be the first serious competitor for itunes and ipod.
Sony: They know a thing or two about portable music players. They know how to design. They have serious brand name recognition. They’re already in the music industry. They already have a large customer base.
MS: They can’t make the ipod, but can definately do the itunes part. They’re still working with others to bring down the Apple empire, so we’ll just have to see how far MS monopoly and $$$ can carry them.
Dell: They know how to sell stuff online. Unfortunately, their design team consisted exclusively of blind people so they’re out of the race. But I think it’s fair to put them on the list of serious competitor.
p.s pick a catagory?
