Amazing at how far Google is trying to push itself. It has made some mis-steps lately, and it is unknown if moving into the PC world as a major player will be a good thing or another mistake on their part, but it looks like they are in talks with Dell.
In yet another symbol of Microsoft’s softening dominance of the computer industry, news broke Tuesday that Google may be close to a deal with Dell to preinstall its software on new computers from the manufacturer.
According to the Wall Street Journal, quoting sources close to the matter, Google would pay Dell $1 billion over three years for the rights to place its software as the default applications on new Dell computers.
Would I want a Google entrenched PC? I really don’t know. There are a few applications from Google that I use, but I would like the choice, and I really think that was what the anti-trust lawsuits in other countries over IE and Media Player were about: choice.
What do you think?

well the good thing about google software going on dell computers would be that they would probably install firefox with the google toolbar as the default browser. i think a lot of people would stop using ie if they didn’t have to change anything. most people who buy dell computers probably don’t even know that there is anything else to use other than ie.
i have been helping some of my friends buy dell computers lately, and the first thing i do for them when it arrives is completely wipe the hard drive and get rid of all the dell software.

i agree totally agree. and unfortunately, my friends actually LIKE ie and aol better than anything else, i believe a google OS based on KDE Linux or some other graphical interface Linux/Unix would sell a lot, and revolutionize the general public towards open source
Another teaming-up againts Microsoft? would that work, or as usual :)
