Picked this up for $10 on clearance, plus shelled out $8 for a 2GB CF card. Some ROMs work, some apps work. A big PITA to work with, as some homebrew does not work, as they will attempt to load but not run. The video player has a cruddy frame rate, the DAP function has some serious artifacting, and knowing Datel, they could do better – but never enough.

At least the CF card will have other uses. But I may pick up its competition in the near future.

This thing is a big disappointment. I got one to test out some homebrew apps and to attempt to run some of my backed up commercial roms. I was getting really pissed at myself because I knew that the applications that I was trying to run were properly installed and should be working, based on Datels’ aggressive advertising that this device could support GBA and NDS files, playback media (at a shitty bit rate, stereo output fails on most my mp3′s and the video decoding blows). I can’t connect to most WiFi connections, only once have I actually gotten wifi to work when running my backed up rom of MarioKart, however, it will only load half the time when attempted and I’d have to format my CF card and reload everything again. It is not compatible with Chishms Fat drivers, it won’t load any OS emulators like DS Linux or Mini vMac… hell, I’m surprise these assholes haven’t been sued yet. Spend a little time researching before you buy and I’d advise against this product. Its definitely cheap and thats what you’ll get. If you already have bought one and are now on the same issues that I’ve been though, run a search on google for the petition.com petition being sent to Datel demanding they fulfill their advertisement and allow the homebrew support they boast.

got one of these for the kids DS, works quite well now with the newer software, gor mine on ebay without flash card for £20 (~$35) picked up 2 gig CF for another £10.

works well with most converted vids and mp3s. Dont expect miracles, the DS screen is small but for cartoons in the car its ideal.

Also dont get the Flash drive versions, get a good x50+ speed compact flash, the high data transfer allows the ROMs to run more efficently. I used a generic Flash card i had for an old camera and while it was fine for movies and music, it couldnt cut it for the commercial backup ROMs. The faster flash card could though.

Don’t get the Max Media Dock. I bought one and spent about 100 bucks total. It’s a rip off because of really low homebrew support, bad video quality, sticks out, and sound quality sucks. Datel is a rip-off.

I bought one of these at Best Buy for just over $30 bucks. I slapped a 1GB Compact Flash card into it (it’ll take up to an 8GB CF card)and put SCUMMVM onto it. Now I can play games that have been screaming to be ported to the DS like “Maniac Mansion”, “Sam & Max Hit the Road” and, “The Dig”. Yeah, the video player is a letdown, but it works and hopefully homebrewers will put something better out there for it. It’s totally worth it to me though for ‘Sam & Max’ alone.

Can anyone tell me what kind of flash cards it runes on, i Only got the dock and starter which was $30 and im not going to spend money on ones that I can’t use.
Oh and on the n64 note it doesn’t matter on what the rom is, it’s the emulator that has to be up to ds/ lite speed.
Because when ever they come out w/ a ds compatable emulator for the MMP i will play Turok alot.
I would like to know this info by a decent time.

So this max media is the same as the walmart version i just want to make sure cuz i want it too. can you but in Compact flash cards as well as the hard drive in the one your describing above? Cuz the one at walmart you can put in you own memory and i’m just a little confused i dont know if the one above is the same as the one in the link. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5131557

that picture is a lie. watching movies gives you 2 options, stop and pause. and it has a progress bar that you can’t even scroll. it cant play .gba files which would be any homebrew gba game or app. its largely worthless. and yes i have it.i shelled out $90 for it (well, more like $78 after my employee discount) and it is not worth it

Also I don’t believe there is a way to convert N64 games into NDS ROMs, yet. There is a possibility but I haven’t check lately. If there is, sure it would be cool to play on the DS itself but I don’t see how well the control method would be…But I know for a fact that NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, GBA, Genesis, and MAME (arcade) can all be encoded into .nds files also knows as Nintendo DS roms.

Woah! You guys really shouldn’t be ranting all this junk about it sucking or ruling if you don’t really know much about it. Sure it looks cool and sure it costs a lot put if you go to Datels homepage (www.codejunkies.com) you’ll see that there is cheaper versions like the 1GB,2GB and the 4GB. Also don’t complain or say something is cool if you don;t even know what a .exe file is or what HDD stands for! Come on I’m 14 and I know this stuff.
