Wow… this didn’t take long. Basically, this hack is similar to the one done for the original XBox and it will allow you to run copies of games on your XBox 360.
It doesn’t allow unsigned code yet or region free DVDs yet, but still, coming from a Next Gen console I’m a bit disappointed on how easily/fast this was accomplished.
Microsoft has disappointed me once again, or perhaps, this is what they intended from the beginning in order to popularize their console before the PS3 arrives.
In case it is the later, just remember one thing Bill, it sounds good on paper but that didn’t save the Dreamcast or the N-Gage (as two examples).

1If you were going to get a xbox 360 anyway, now’s probably a good time to do so before they update the firmware. Even if you aren’t a “pirate”, it’s probably going to be worth a bit more when you sell it.

2Any firmware revision of any game console will eventually be hacked or modded. I’m of the belief that any electronic device or computer is designed to be hacked, anyway. Makes life more exciting. :)

3You’re disappointed that the XBox 360 can run backups of games with a firmware modification, or you’re disappointed that an unbreakable console security system hasn’t been developed yet? I’m a bit confused either way.
Also, this is nothing like the original XBox hack. Someone desoldered the DVD drive firmware chip, decompiled/debugged the code and patched it, then uploaded the new firmware with a flash writer and soldered it back in to the drive. Eventually we’ll get PC drivers for the 360 drives so the soldering/desoldering and flash reader/writer isn’t necessary. The original XBox hacks took many forms but none of them touched the DVD drive firmware.

4Great, This means that there should be ways to circumvent the nice regional encoding that Microsoft has deemed necessary for the xbox360.
So much for unhackable, what they meant by that is probably that they can keep updating the firmware forever.

5the firmware is on newsgroups now, in the 360 channel, you hook the sata hitachi drive to your pc via a convert like ide/eide to sata or likewise then your pc will flash the new firmware one the drive, you don’t have to remove a piece of the motherboard that nonsense, don’t take my word for it go ask in the right place people will tell you

10yeh i agree with USA, why dont u hack the army and blow em up so they stop going into other countries and fking up world-peace?
well back to our original topic…
xbox360 is going to be hacked whatever microsoft does, even if they update the firmware through xbox-live, we’re still going to have the option to just re-flash the damn firmware ourselves…
the best microsoft can do is to block the modified firmware from xbox-live.
the same goes for ps3… the same things going to happen, don’t u worry!
