Kyle MacDonald wants a house of his own. And he’s willing to trade a big red paperclip for one. Well, not a direct trade, actually, but he planned to barter the paperclip up one item at a time until he gets to achieve that dream of his. And he’s using the community/collaborative power of the Web in his quest. MacDonald started bartering on Craigslist, but is now listing the details directly on his site. The concept may sound absurd at first, but as of the moment, MacDonald has bartered his way up to a year’s rent in a Phoenix apartment.
And you’d be amused and surprised at what are people willing to trade in exchange. As of this posting, there are offers for a summer in Hollywood, complete with Porsche convertible, a 24-hour topless lapdance, and a “hot ride” (which isn’t really that hot, actually).
My name is Kyle MacDonald and I am trying to trade one red paperclip for a house. I started with one red paperclip on July 12th, 2005 and I am making a series of trades for bigger or better things. My current item up for trade is one year in Phoenix.

1I did something like that with a group of friends. We started out with a penny then got a broken blender then a electric screwdriver then a station wagon with no battery. And who says a penny doesn’t go a long way.
