If you think Aero is the main feature of Windows Vista, and the sole reason for buying it, then you are retarded.

throughout the years, xp has proven itself to be a superior opertaion system based on its ease of use and abundant built-in functionalities. i await to see how much more vista can improve upon this. aero isn't attracting me that much.

I'm not sure where I read it, but apparently one of the builds of Vista took up 2GB of RAM just to run the system at idle using aero theme. Apparently you'll need a super computer to even begin to game on it.

Well apart from the fact that they are doing an entire kernel re-write (or close enough to it), better security, hardware accelerated redesigned UI, Dx10, faster boot times, free upgradability to WinFS, preinstalled Media Center, new built in apps, default x64 bit compatibility, there's really no reason to upgrade to Vista.

Obviously u won't get to use the new UI if u don't have enough video memory. But that's one reason why PCs were cheaper than Macs. You don't need an uber expensive rig to run Windows. But nowadays, with an increasing number of users owning graphics cards with 128MB ram onboard this becomes more feasible.

But Vista isn't just about a fancy new UI (personally i find the translucencies damn irritating and just plain stupid), there's more to it than that.

I'd wait to see how the OS performs first.

I keep saying to ppl that MS is preparing a free OS... I mean, they will just hand you Vist Starter edition or whatever they call it and then they~ll charger for access to supperior features. Handing over their OS is the only option for halting their (slow) market-share erosion.

Okay...the DirectX10 argument is a good one. I wonder though how long it would take someone to try to get DX10 on XP though...then what will Vista have that would make it worth upgrading to?

I agree that not having it in Home Basic is okay...but I thought that Windows Vista was supposed to scale depending on the computer.

And XP will have an SP3...so the comparison, while funny, is not really all that correct.

The one (and only) thing that's making me want Vista is still there: DirectX10, that's reason enough to drop everything and upgrade in my eyes.

And saying they've dropped Aero when they're simply not including it on their lowest version isn't exactly accurate. Home Basic is for the kind of people who are still on Windows 98, they don't want the best and they won't have enough to run it even if they wanted it. Home Basic is for low-spec computers for non-computer friendly people. Not including Aero in this build is a completely logical thing to do.
