MacRumors is quoting an unverified anonymous source that Apple may announce the MacBook notebooks as early as May 9.
An unverified anonymous source claims that Apple stores are receiving materials for a new window display that’s labeled “do not open until Tuesday, May 9th.” The source also claims that Apple has directed its stores to push iBook sales this weekend, presumably to clear out inventory.
They are also pointing to a page on the Apple site that makes a reference to the MacBook at http://www.apple.com/ipod/ (Mirrored here in case it gets removed).
I can see the excitement, although they could also just be teasing the product, with an actual launch still weeks or more away. Even if they are launched, they may not be available immediately.
