This has got to be one of the lamest attempts at viral marketing I have ever seen. SanDisk, in an attempt to sway potential buyers away from the wildly successful iPod and convince them to use their players, has decided that they way to do that is by comparing them to sheep.
Attention all free thinkers, contrarians, and malcontents. The time has come to rise up against the iTatorship. To resist the monotony of white earbuds and reject the oppressive forces of cultural conformity.

1Being a punk of sorts myself, (not so much in appearance, but in general attitude towards conformism) I think it’s a good idea. One of the first things I did when I got my iPod (which was free by the way. I still don’t think they’re worth the money) was to replace those white earbuds with some different ones to make it less obvious that I had an iPod.

2Heh… yeah I use a pair of Sony earphones on mine… the irony (and the sound quality) is delicous.

3In all fairness, this “anti-sheep” campaign is also Apple’s when it comes to computers.
Think different.

4Another lame corp attempt at trying to convince the public they’re hip and cool/rebellious.
If you look closely at the site you can see the “We want your money instead” text in the background.

6So… the alternative to the iPod is Sandisk’s “iPod” in order to be rebelious and cool?
I can’t believe that there’s actually a market for people that buy that dung.

7That’s a tough sell against such a strong brand and fashion statement. I’d think usability or price would be better angles to play.
