I have a good number of acquaintances that work for Google, within different departments and they even communicate mixed messages. In the end most employees feel the same, it's just another job.

Google makes it so hard to get an offer in the first place, why turn it down. I know someone that had to do 8 interviews in Ireland and still didn't get a position. I reckon if you've worked in Google, your CV for other jobs would be great.

Personally I wouldn't of turned the offer down on the spot, I would say that my family are a key part of my moving, and I would need a permanent job with better benefits to justify a move for my family who are already rooted where we are.

But meh, we don't know how good his current job is?

I do like the bit about that screen in the lobby that shows current searches, sounds very cool.

Thing is, the guy was already working elsewhere, and he seemed quite happy (and earning well). My thinking is that had Google offered him the permanent position he was hoping for (i.e., with the stock, health plans, etc.) then he would've given it more thought.

I have a feeling that the guy was definitely quick to judge based on who was doing the interviewing and not the company as a whole. That's very shortsighted and I would've taken up the offer in order to gain the experienced perspective and not just a glance.
