At least, that’s what we had in mind when we settled on reddit as the name of our site. I even lost a bet in the process.

There was a serious dearth of good dot.coms and reddit was — believe it or not — the best one we could come up with. I can’t tell you how frustrating it was to be spending hours looking up domains…that was a year ago, I can only imagine what it’d be like now.

Despite not using “alpha”, “beta”, or “gamma” anywhere on our site, we do have an alien mascot, which is really what sets us apart.

I think it’s actually Yahoo! (I made an image that says “yahoo started it.” for my second post), but I guess it’s Google that’s gotten h-u-g-e, and Yahoo seems to be a silly acronym. :)
