Microsoft has released a beta application that will scan your machine and tell you what devices and/or drivers need to be updated in order to run the various versions of Windows Vista that will be available. You download the app, select what you would like to do with Vista from a pre-set list of options (record TV, manage photos, work remotely, etc) and then it starts scanning your system, first for devices and then for drivers.
At work, I am running a Dell Dimension 8400 with a 3.4Ghz P4, 2GB of RAM, and a 128MB ATI Radeon X300SE (PCI-Express). The only thing I would have to upgrade my machine for would be my video card for the “Watch and Record TV” and “Premium Photo, Music and Movie Experiences”.
