HIS Releasing First PCIe x1 Graphics Card

HIS Releasing First PCIe x1 Graphics Card

Hi-Tech Information Systems Limited is poised to release the first x1 PCIe video card based on the ATI X1K chipset. The first card, which is an x1300 512MB HyperMemory video card is being targeted at Dell, HP and IBM for systems that don’t have the bigger x16 slot which everyone is getting used to. You will also find dual link DVI and a quiet fan. I am pretty excited about this, as there are still many motherboards that don’t have the room for the x16 graphics cards. The card will also include ATI’s AVIVO technology which improved playback of H.264 video. It should be available by the end of July Read more »

Verizon and Actiontec bring 100Mbps FiOS to homes

Here in Canada, my best bet for Internet connection speed seems to be about 10Mbps though cable Internet, though where I live, we can only get a maximum of 6Mbps. In the US, they are talking about fiber-optic broadband to the home, and if that is not nice enough, they are now getting a new 100Mbps option for home users, thanks to a new router from Actiontec which was designed to Verizon”s FiOS specifications. Business users have been able to get the 100Mbps speed for a while, but now certain residential locations will be able to increase their speed too. Another interesting development in my mind is the technology Verizon Read more »

Google Checkout Is Live

Google Checkout Is Live

Google has finally released its long rumored Google Checkout, atleast in the USA. It is a PayPal like system to shop online without having to re-enter your personal information each time you want to make a purchase. Unlike PayPal though, Checkout is not an online bank account to send and receive money, atleast not yet. Currently, it is enabling an easy way to purchase items from a select few sites, like Starbucks, Levi’s, DVD Empire, and Buy.com. Sites like Amazon have still not been added to the list. Google suggests you look for their shopping cart icon within AdWords on search results, which is just another way for them to Read more »

DMB TV Tuner USB Key

DMB TV Tuner USB Key

The Koreans are at it again, and once again beating their neighbours and the rest of the world with this new USB TV Tuner. The company behind it is called Modmen, and what they put together is basically a USB Key with 512mb or 1gb capacity. So basically, wherever there’s a USB plug and Windows XP, you can plug it on, watch television, and even listen to some of your music saved on it. Read more »

Experimental Downgrader for 2.5 and 2.6 PSPs emerges

First of all let me make this very clear. If you try to run this Experimental Downgrader it will brick your PSP, so be a bit more patient while the developers solve the final bugs. Did I say it will brick your PSP already? Dark_AleX made not too long ago an experimental downgrader which theoretically should work but at the moment isn’t, due to some bugs in the programming and some other things that are mostly incomplete. In my opinion, since we discovered a way to access the Kernel mode on these quite recent firmwares we should be making new homebrew software for it instead of going back to 1.5. Read more »

Transformers Teaser now Online

After being leaked onto the internet much to the rage of the “ever-charismatic” Don Murphy, the people at Dreamworks and Paramount conceided defeat and released the Teaser for the movie a week in advance…since everyone had already seen it, anyway. You can view the teaser right here, though it takes a minute or two to load. The teaser is decent, though don’t expect too much to be revealed. Still, it’s managed to hype the movie quite well amongst the fandom. Transformers the Movie will be released theatrically on July 4th, 2007. Read more »

Superman Returns: Reviewed

So I went to see the highly-anticipated Superman Returns yesterday, and here’s my review chronicling my thoughts. In short, the movie wasn’t everything I’d hoped it would be, and I STILL don’t buy Brandon Routh, but it wasn’t terrible. You can read the full review Right Here. So the long-awaited Superman Returns has finally hit theaters. While the movie-itself managed to hit theaters, the outcome was both hit and miss. The story held up relatively nicely, save for some weak elements that felt too convenient or tacked-on. Most of the actors played their roles perfectly, save for the most important one. Overall, Superman Returns wasn’t as “super” as it was Read more »

On Social Bookmarking Sites

On Social Bookmarking Sites

What’s your favorite social bookmarking site? Chances are, you may not have a single preferred bookmarking tool. There are dozens of choices, from dedicated social bookarking sites like del.icio.us, to social bookmarking-cum-news sites like DIGG, to yet other hybrids that try to mix social bookmarking with other functionalities such as blogging, clipping, social networking, and even RSS feed-reading. Crowded as this set may be, there are still handfuls of social bookmarking sites coming up every now and then, with the promise of better functionality, ease-of-use and of course the coolness factor. However, I’m not one to quickly jump from one social bookmarking bandwagon to the next. For me, social bookmarking Read more »
