As announced over at IGN, to further celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 15th anniversary, Sega will be releasing a port of the original Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog 1 on the Gameboy Advance. However, to sweeten the deal, this port will contain a save feature and Sonic’s trademark spin-dash attack, which wasn’t created until Sonic the Hedgehog 2, worked into the game. No news on whether they’re going to give the sprites any sort of make-over or if any further alterations will be made. Never-the-less, this is a great game to take on the go and I sincerely hope it means the rest of Sonic’s Genesis adventures will be ported to a handheld.

1I have the original Sonic the Hedgehog on my cellphone. I also have Ridge Racer 1. It’s amazing how much technology has evolved in the past few years.
I wonder if 4 years from now we’ll be playing Half Life 2 or the sort on our portable devices.

2I’ve been disappointed with the Sonic Advance trilogy, to be honest. It’s mostly the level design and poor concept of a “dificulty level” (pits and badniks pop out of nowhere at the last second, not difficult, irritating).
I’d rather have the Genesis series to go with me than the lackluster contemporary titles. However, I hear Sonic Rush blows the Advance trilogy out of the water. I intend to pick that title up once I get my DS Lite.

4I agree totally with Spengs. The Sonic advance trilogy was disappointing. I still play the games out of boredom once in a while. But I have Sonic Rush and Beat the whole thing. So spengs, you’re in for a big surprise. I hope that sonic mega collection plus comes out for GBA, PSP or even DS.(Enjoy Sonic Rush Spengs.)
