To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the original Transformers movie, and to cash-in on the up-coming Live-Action film, Sony has announced an Anniversary Special Edition DVD release.

According to Sony’s latest news blurb, the DVD will include ” never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, interactive games and collectible packaging.” However, the “footage” could just be referring to the storyboards of unproduced scenes, and the “interviews” could just be the interview with Vince DiCola, all available on the previous Rhino Home Video release of the movie.

There is a veritable treasure chest’s worth of material that could be included on the DVD as special features, including early production trailers (which contain REAL never-before-seen footage), “The Touch” music video featuring Stan Bush, a Japanese langauge track (the Japanese DVD release of the film contained an optional English track, so why not?), toy commercials and even the Japanese-exclusive OVA, “Scramble City”. The list goes on. Whether Sony has any interest in pursuing the rights to this material, or if they just intend to re-package the Rhino release, is yet to be determined.
