The Super Mario cast and the Classic Final Fantasy cast are set to take it to the court for the DS!

If you head down to Nintendo’s Official Japanese Website you might be in for a surprise. The previously-announced Mario 3-on-3 Basketball title for the Nintendo DS seems to have undergone a bit of a change. Apparently, Nintendo has forged a new alliance with Square/Enix, and much like how they’ve licensed 3rd party characters for Super Smash Bros Brawl, they have also licensed a handful of classic Final Fantasy characters for this basketball game. So far, the headliners listed under the category “Character 2″ are Ninja, White Mage, Black Mage, Cactaur and Moogle. The “Character 1″ category lists all the Mario characters featured in the game (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigu, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr. and Bowser) while there also appears to be a “Character 3″ category which has not been revealed yet.
More Final Fantasy characters or perhaps ANOTHER set of 3rd party licensed characters? We’ll find out soon-enough.
