Now the Wii is playing with power!

When I woke up this morning the last thing I expected to hear was “Hey, Nintendo’s making a new Powerglove!” But, well, here we are.
When you sit down and think about it, it almost makes perfect sense. With the Wii pimping the motion-sensor technology like there’s no tomorrow, coming out with a plethora of interactive gadgets, it was only a matter of time before the Powerglove worked its way back into our lives. While the original Powerglove tried to allow the user to harness the power of the Nintendo controller through their finger-tips, using a complex system of motion sensors which barely worked, it was ultimately an utter failure. It’s remembered best for being “So lame it was cool”. Movies like The Wizard and Freddy’s Dead: the Final Nightmare have also managed to keep the memory of the Powerglove alive by capturing it on film.
This new Powerglove appears to have worked out all the kinks, or so we’re lead to believe. It would seem that in addition to having the controllers plastered to your wrist, you also have one in the palm of your hand (sorta defeating the purpose of a “hands-free” controller, but as long as it works…). The new Powerglove looks to be used mostly for punching the crap out of things.
Here’s hoping this new Powerglove is an improvement over the original. But with more than a decade’s advancement in motion-sensor technology, it would almost have to be.

2Ummm… the link is to a picture that somebody on some forum drew as far as I can tell. I would hardly call this evidence of Nintendo making a powerglove for the Wii.

3It does seem pretty obviously a fan-made mock-up.
