Here’s a comic you may not have thought about in a long time. Heck, it may even surprise you to know that it’s still being published. Well, with this being Sonic the Hedgehog’s 15th Anniversary and all, I figured now might be a good time to do a quick spotlight on the little blue guy’s comic book escapades.
Is Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic still worth reading?
You can check-out this article to see what I think.
Archieâs Sonic the Hedgehog comic series: one of the longest-running (if not THE longest running) video game-based comics of all-time. With 163 issues under its belt (as of right now) and a ton of miniseries and one-shots, the book has obviously been doing *something* right since the early 90âs. However, is the book still worth reading today? Well, for a while there, it most-certainly was *not*. Lately, though, itâs hit an upward trend thatâs been rising steadily for quite a while now. Iâd definitely say that right this very second, Archieâs Sonic the Hedgehog is worth the invested time of any Sonic fan.

1I’m not much of a fan of the Sonic universe, but I do like that cover art. It’s the best art that I think I’ve seen from the Sonic series, best as I recall.

2I’ve an avid reader of this comic, even though it’s very hard to obtain where I live, but I do have to warn users not to be mistaken by the quality of the cover.
Many pencilers come and go, but some of them have a style that doesn’t adapt at all to the Sonic universe, but, there are others which make it all worthwhile. Though lately, the art has been great.
And the story is improving at a steady pace. I’m just sad they cancelled the Knuckles comic.

3Yeah, the cover art is typically done by an artist named “Spaz”, and he’s extremely good at it. However, the interior art fluctuates in quality from arc to arc. The book also, more-so before than now, has 2-3 different stories per issue. So you get a different artist for each story. Right now it’s focuing on the Darkest Storm arc with only a quick Sonic Ruch back-up strip, though.
So when you have 3 different stories with 3 different artists per issue, you’re bound to get a mixed bag. At the moment, though, the art is quite nice.

4The best comic I have, in terms of artwork, was my very first Sonic comic: Sonic Mecha Madness.

5I love the comic series! I have collected them since issue 150 and I am tryin to get all the issues before that. But one question that has plauged me was, What’s Sonic’s Daughters name? She showed up in the Mobius 25 years later future stories.
