Women are generally not interested in “boy toys”. We grew up with Transformers and GI Joes while they were busy playing with Barbies and play houses. But I agree, there *are* indeed tech-savvy women… and yeah, they do come once in a blue moon.

Thanks to companies like Apple, women are now open to operating ’smart gadgets’ such as the iPod and the coming iPhone

I must agree with Synonymous…I am so tired of statistics without corresponding details about how the study was conducted.
I am also frustrated with this excerpt from the original article:

“men cared about what the specs and features are, whereas women just wanted to know why a device is useful and what it could do for them. Men spend hours going over instructions and women just bust in and use stuff.”

A man interested in specs may not understand a damn thing. Perhaps the women from the study didn’t waste time trying to feign competence in the need to gratify their ego.

I’m definitely not one of the 25%. Granted, I may not be as knowledgeable as some of my guy friends but I know more than most of my female ones.

I for one, KNOW im part of that 25%. I feel that it’s possible that this study WAS just a UK thing. Maybe that statistic is a little unrelated to the US. I mean, the women in the US are FAR more into technology that a lot of other women in other countries. I know for a fact that I dont have to depend on a man to fix my computer, TV, mobile phone, etc. I’m more than qualified to work these gadgets as well as others. ^^

As a tech- and stat-savvy woman, I find this number somewhat implausible myself and would like to know more about how the study was conducted. What, for example, was the corresponding percentage of men who, according to this study, did not know how to use technology?

I’m happy to say that my girlfriend is one of the 25%. She has doubts, as any other person, but most of the time I just have to point her in the right direction and she figures out the rest.

Yeah, I have to agree with Lissy, most the girls I know don’t have huge problems with the basics. Sure they’re not into tech and gadgets but give them a cell phone or mp3 player and they’re fine.

Could be cultural too. I’m one of the 25% other extreme.. as a kid I wasn’t expected to want to know how they work and only told when I asked and bugged others.

I dunno, maybe older women like my mom. *shakes head* we’ve had the DVD player for like forever now and she still can’t figure out how to use it. After we’ve shown her several times…
