802.11n Delayed to Death?

With multiple companies heading towards fiber optics to the home could the dream of wireless Internet being fast and everywhere be nothing more than a dream? Well, some people think that the constant delays in ratifying the 802.11n standard have basically made it so that wireless will be a secondary technology when it comes to mainstream Internet connectivity.

With other wired technologies getting more popular, faster, and cheaper, wireless could see a while generation of Internet subscribers staying wired due to a slow down in progress in regards to the technology.

I think that if 802.11n is delayed again, they should forget about it and work on its replacement. Maybe by 2010 we can have 802.11x out before fiber optics or another wired technology totally takes over.

Do you think the much delayed 802.11n standard will be all that useful when compared to other technologies on the horizon? Internet over power lines, fiber to the home, etc…
