Well, it looks like Hollywood has had another brainstorm of genius-proportions, as Ace Ventura 3 is now in the works. But don’t get too excited, Ventura fans, because Jim Carrey won’t be having anything to do with this one. Instead, the early scripts will star Ace Ventura’s son as the irritating pet detective. Kinda reminds me of those awful Pink Panther movies they made after Peter Sellers quit.

Ace Ventura 3 isn’t the first sequel to a popular Jim Carrey movie that won’t star Jim Carrey. Dumb & Dumberer, a prequel to Carrey’s Dumb & Dumber, was actually a box office success, costing $19,000,000 and earning $26,214,846 in US box office-alone. However, Son of the Mask cost $74,000,000 and made only $17,010,646 in US box office. So will Ace Ventura 3 suffer the same fate as the sequel to the Mask, or will it be as successful as the prequel to Dumb & Dumber?

Personally, I liked the Ace Ventura animated series. I thought it had wittier humor than When Nature Calls (take that as you will).
