MS Word for the Macintosh first shipped in 1983. Both Excel and Word were first developed for the Mac years before they were available for Windows.

Wrong timeline? I was using GUI MS Word Excel and Powerpoint on a Mac in the ‘87 – ‘88 timeframe. MS had Office for the Mac long before they ever marketed a usable version of Windows.

Actually, after the Mac was introduced, everybody was waiting for Lotus Jazz to be released for the Mac. Jazz was Lotus 1-2-3, a word processor, and something else, I don’t remember. However Jazz was a big disappointment and MS took the opportunity to push MS Word, MS Excel(it had a different name when initially released, I don’t remember what it was). These were later bundled into MS Office to knock out Lotus Jazz. This all happened in the latter half of the 80’s.

Well.. You’ve got the timeline quite wrong. In the mid 80’s when Microsoft “stole” the GUI from Apple, there was no Office or even Word.. Jump ten years ahead to 1997 when Apple and Microsoft settled once and for all withcross licencing agrements and a promise to develop Ms Office and Internet Explorer for Mac.
