Microsoft/Windows Vista expert reviewer has put together an article regarding what Microsoft did with IE7. In short: They completely ignored what developers wanted/expected, leaving yet again the internet stuck to the past with a browser which is basically the same (in rendering terms) to what it was 16 years ago.
My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It’s a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn’t secure and isn’t standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators. Because of their user bases, however, Web developers are hamstrung into developing for IE at the expense of established standards that work well in all other browsers. You can turn the tide by demanding more from Microsoft and by using a better alternative Web browser. I recommend and use Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari (Macintosh only) and Opera 8 are both worth considering as well.
On what did You base this thing?Even I do not creat large webs,I did a smaller web presentation for company putting entire formating to CSS.(www.lesy-janecek.cz – only czech language!)
I use IE7 on my main computer and they fixed so much of CSS that it broke certain webs.And not all things could be made in time properly.(See IE blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/ )
And security is on same level as is in other browsers.
Of course it has some problems,but they are more caused by rest of programs and libraries than by bugs in IE7.

I didn’t write the title, I quoted it. Obviously IE is a big part of the web, but for the time they’ve had developing it they could have done so much better.
I think Microsoft is finally (though slowly) learning from their mistakes and moving in the right direction. I do however wonder if their pace will be quick enough.
