Do you think that Windows Vista will be able to beat other operating systems like Linux (any distribution) or OS X and if so or not, why?
I have many negative feelings when it comes to Windows Vista, and I think much of the readership here would agree with me, but do you think they are going to do way better this time around when it comes to security?

1Vista? I don’t think so but XP is fairly stable so I don’t think Windows is going anywhere. =/

2I don’t trust Microsoft. Case in point: I got an email from the company that owns my leased dedicated server the other day, stating that the Dept. of Homeland Security was urging everyone to install a new security patch to defeat a new vunerability found in the Win OS. WTF??!!
Would you ever hear about that kind of thing concerning a Mac running on OSX? No.
Don’t get me wrong, Win OS has some very good points about it and in some ways I enjoy it more than Mac but ultimately Mac is the better product as it’s rock solid and secure.
By the way, just a side, learn the details behind the 911 cover-up: http://www.loosechange911.com

3I think it did have a chance at one point, but by the time it finally gets released Apple will have the next version of OS X and Linux is coming along nicely all the time, especially with projects like Ubuntu on the move. Vista is probably going to look out of date as soon as it’s released, and the longer Microsoft delays the more people are going to switch to an alternative. Also, Windows users are fairly slow to upgrade anyway (I still know people running 98, and I run 2000 myself because I dislike XP so much), so I think it will be 2008 before most users seriously start thinking about the possibility of upgrading to Vista.

4NO NO Way!!, Windows Vista can’t able to beat even its own Windows XP, because their is no much people is waiting for its release, except Microsoft itself. Most of the screen shots of Vista seems having features literally copied from other OS like Mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux.

5I agree, it just seems that Microsoft cant be bothered to innovate anymore. All they do is rip ideas off of Mac and Linux

6The market won’t make a 180. Microsoft will still hold a large share, and though I believe it will begin to shrink… I don’t think it’ll be at least another 4-6 operating systems till this Microsoft beast is slayed. At best.

7If you are able to “market” linux properlly, it will easily defeat microsoft. I believe that Dell has already begun to allow for linux OS to be installed as the primary OS. Since linux is free, after a while, people will start to convert instead of paying the 200 or so dollars to use the windows OS.

8I know that im not going to switch to vista. I dont think that there is any need to do so, plus I already have a mac with OSX 10.4. I think many people will switch to vista, but with no reason other than the fact that its new
